Chmerkovskiy and Murgatroyd were neighbors with Sheen at the time of the alleged incident.

There are quite a few lines of connection between Dancing With the Stars' Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Two and a Half Men's Charlie Sheen. They used to be neighbors, for one, and Chmerkovskiy was once paired with Sheen's ex-wife Denise Richards on a seasons of DWTS. But also, Chmerkovskiy's wife Peta Murgatroyd once saved Sheen from being murdered!

"The world is a tiny place, but I ended up being neighbors for about three years with Charlie Sheen," Chmerkovskiy revealed on Wednesday's episode of the Behind The Velvet Rope Podcast. "And my wife, Peta, actually saved him from some nut job that was trying to, some chick was trying to kill him or something. I don’t know if she fell in love. Peta stepped in and wrestled her. I mean, it was a huge story, by the way. I’m not going to talk about it."

Sheen has had his fair share of run-ins with fans he reportedly felt were too enthusiastic over the years, and even came under investigation himself by LAPD's stalking unit in 2016. But Chmerkovskiy's assertion that Sheen was once mortally threatened by a fan, and that he was subsequently rescued by the DWTS-pro wife of his ex-wife's former DWTS partner is a revelation.

Representatives for Chmerkovskiy, Murgatroyd, and Sheen did not immediately reply to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment.

The story came as an aside in a larger discussion on Chmerkovskiy's evolving feelings about his time on and off as one of DWTS's main pros. When asked by Velvet Rope host David Yontef "what was it like working with Denise Richards," Chmerkovskiy replied that the Wild Things and RHOBH star was "awesome," "great," and "lovely," and that it's a "small world" he ended up living next to her ex-husband.

Richards and Chmerkovskiy competed in the eighth season of Dancing With the Stars in 2009. They placed 12th in the overall competition, Chmerkovskiy's lowest placement of all his 17 seasons.

"She loved dance. She wanted to do the show. She was just not a very good dancer," Chmerkoskiy stated. "I wish I could have done better... With Denise, she needed more time. She would have done better with more time, more preparation, but we just didn’t have that time."

Sheen stepped away from the public eye in 2015 after he revealed his HIV+ diagnosis. The following year, he revealed his bipolar diagnosis. Legal troubles followed, including his lawsuit against Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre, Corey Feldman's allegation that Sheen raped him while making the 1986 film Lucas, and a recent incident in which he was attacked by a neighbor.

He's only made one screen appearance since 2017's 9/11 - a 2023 cameo as himself on the Max comedy series Bookie.

Dancing With the Stars season 33, which does not include Chmerkoskiy or Murgatroyd in its cast this time around, airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.
